In our attempt to revitalize masculinity in contemporary, secular society, there is an enduring threat. In trying to rediscover a robust, Catholic understanding of manliness, we might oversimplify it or flatten it out. We tend to emphasize aspects of masculinity that appeal to us personally, and latch on to cultural trends that correspond with our […]

Today Sam and John discuss the dignity of work and how to balance the desire for career advancement with your faith. We also give great advice on how to get ahead in your career and discern changing your job. Pride, power, and pleasure are the ideals held by society with work, but it is by pursuing these ideals that we instead find frustration, anxiety, and unhappiness. He earned a decent living as a middle manager in retail yet this career left me feeling wholly unfulfilled. Leszek knew that he wanted to create something that would last. He was used to getting dirty and working with his hands – so he was thrilled to learn that Hereford College of Arts ran a blacksmithing course. The next thing he knew, he quit his job and started training. Since then he has found his passion in producing a series of superb artisan tools and knives, using age-old skills to produce modern objects of desire. His inspiration comes from the history and the traditional methods, getting to grips with hammers, tongs, and fire. Having these skills has paid off more than a career in retail ever would. Today Sam and John discuss 12 of the manliest saints in history. We go into what we today can learn from how these incredible men lived. It is important to understand the character of these men, the times they lived in, as well as the lessons they teach us. We focus on how they lived their lives and why we should turn to them in various struggles we might face. Regardless of their history, they all lived devoted to God's will in a beautiful way. -- SUPPORT THE CATHOLIC GENTLEMAN -- https://www.patreon.com/catholicgentleman Learn more about your ad choices.
