Verot students ‘Live Jesus’

Juniors and seniors from Bishop Verot High School in Fort Myers participated in the 17th “Live Jesus Retreat” Jan. 20-23 in Alva. The four-day experience is modeled after Cursillo/Chrysalis with a Salesian perspective. It helps students encounter Jesus’ presence in their lives, provides time for spiritual renewal, teaches students more about the faith, and allows participants to experience Christian love and support. The goal of the retreat is to inspire, challenge and equip students for a closer relationship with Christ and for Christian action at home, church, school and community.

The Live Jesus Retreat is offered three times a year to juniors and seniors. Twelve seniors who have already attended the retreat serve as leaders. The retreat features 14 student-led talks in addition to lectures given by adults. Priests from surrounding parishes attend the retreat to administer the sacrament of reconciliation. The retreat concluded with a reunion Mass Jan. 23. Parents, as well as retreat alumni, reunite with the students during the Mass.
