Operation Rice Bowl begins Feb. 6Operation Rice Bowl, Catholic Relief Services’ Lenten solidarity program, begins Ash Wednesday, Feb. 6. The effort calls on the faithful to pray with their families and faith communities, fast in solidarity with those who hunger, learn about the global community and the challenges of poverty overseas, and give sacrificial contributions to those in need. Seventy-five percent of Rice Bowl proceeds goes to Catholic Relief Services and helps fund development projects designed to increase food security in communities in more than 40 countries around the world. Twenty-five percent of contributions supports hunger and poverty alleviation efforts in dioceses in the United States.
