Parishioner honored for volunteer work
Our Lady Queen of Martyrs parishioner Rosemary Darnall was named the “Angel of the Agency” by the Community Haven for Adults and Children with Disabilities, Inc. in Sarasota. Darnall has volunteered in the organization's infant classroom for five years. Rosemary Darnall, a parishioner of Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Parish in Sarasota, was recently named the “Angel of the Agency” by the Community Haven for Adults and Children with Disabilities Inc. in Sarasota, where Darnall is a volunteer. Community Haven serves children, teens and adults with developmental, physical, sensory and mental health disabilities. Services include job placement and assistance, housing support, school-to-career education for teens with disabilities, as well as preschool and musical theater programs. Darnall was chosen for Community Haven’s volunteer award after giving five years of service in the organization’s infant classroom for children with special needs. As a great-grandmother, Darnall has the skills and characteristics needed in the classroom, said infant classroom teacher David Scott. “When she arrives in the classroom, she jumps right in, eager to help out in whatever way she can,” he said. “It’s not all diaper changing. She participates in every aspect. According to the staff, she brings with her lots of good conversation and a wonderful sense of humor. She also makes an effort to recognize the staff by bringing them occasional treats.” Darnall actively promotes the good work happening at Community Haven. With the help of other parishioners from Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Parish, Darnall has held several fundraisers for Community Haven. Epiphany named ‘school of excellence’
