Bishop Verot student is National Merit finalistFORT MYERS | A senior from Bishop Verot Catholic High School was recently named a finalist in the 2008 National Merit Scholarship Program. Morgan Bergau is a member of the National and Spanish Honor Societies, Students Against Destructive Decisions, Latin Dance Club, Special Populations Art Club and International Club, and volunteers on a regular basis in the community. She has distinguished herself in Bishop Verot’s Advanced Placement courses, while earning a 4.41 grade point average. Morgan scored a perfect 800 on the critical reading section of the SAT, as well as perfect 5s on the AP U.S. history and AP European history exams. She is the daughter of Joelle Bergau and William Anthony Bergau II of Fort Myers. The National Merit Scholarship Program honors students who show exceptional academic ability and potential for success in rigorous college studies. More than 1.4 million high school juniors entered the 2008 program by taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. The nationwide pool of about 16,000 semifinalists, which represents less than 1 percent of U.S. high school seniors, includes the highest-scoring entrants in each state. About 90 percent of the semifinalists advance to the finalist level by completing several requirements, including an endorsement from the school principal. Finalists compete for nearly 8,200 scholarship awards worth $34 million.
