New Florida Catholic Venice editor is Reddy

The Florida Catholic in the Diocese of Venice has a new editor who comes to the position with an extensive background in newspapers and a desire to grow as a Catholic and share his experiences with the readers.

Meanwhile, the previous editor leaves with a heavy heart but with a plan to continue to write for the Florida Catholic on a part-time basis and helping her husband with his growing photography business.

Bob Reddy said he believes his coming to the Florida Catholic is part of “God’s plan.” He was laid off from his most recent job as a spokesman for Sarasota County and did a lot of searching for answers and direction within his faith. Family members told him that “God has a plan” and that the plan would be revealed in good time.

“When I learned I would be the new editor and reporter for the Florida Catholic in the Diocese of Venice, I knew right away, without hesitation, that it was the right job and part of that plan,” Reddy said.

He has an extensive knowledge of the region, covering a variety of news stories for two newspapers in the area since 2000. He has a journalism degree from Ohio State University.

Reddy grew up in Orange County, N.Y., which lies northwest of New York City. Both of his parents were products of Catholic schools and his extended family, especially his late grandparents, served as shining examples in their devotion to the church and the way they lived their lives.

He currently attends St. Martha Parish in Sarasota, but has attended Mass at more than a dozen parishes in the diocese.

“I look forward to continuing my journey of discovery about my Catholic faith while taking everyone who reads the Florida Catholic along for the ride,” Reddy said.

He takes over for the departing Kristie Nguyen. Nguyen served as editor and writer for 10 months. She plans to continue on as a freelance writer for the Florida Catholic, so you will continue to see her articles in the future.
