Prayerful people gather during vigil for life
KRISTIE NGUYEN | FC PORT CHARLOTTE | Hundreds of people joined Bishop Frank J. Dewane in prayer for an end to abortion during the Charlotte County Coalition for Life’s prayer vigil for life Jan. 26. Bishop Dewane concelebrated Mass at St. Charles Borromeo Parish that morning. Following the Mass, the bishop and the people walked approximately a half–mile to pray the rosary outside a nearby abortion site. St. Charles Borromeo school children led the crowd in prayer. Those who could not participate in the procession stayed at the parish to pray before the Blessed Sacrament. Upon returning to the church, Bishop Dewane and Father John Ludden, pastor, blessed a new monument of the Ten Commandments that stands in front of the church building. The parish Knights of Columbus Council worked with Project Moses, a national nonprofit organization, to install the 900-pound monument. Project Moses has been working with Christian and Jewish groups since 2004 to establish displays of the Ten Commandments on private religious properties. The prayer vigil for life concluded with Benediction at St. Charles Borromeo Parish and a social gathering.
