October 2008 Parish celebrates 60th with communityPosted: 10.17.08 St. John Vianney Parish in St. Pete Beach is celebrating its 60th anniversary in November and several events are planned. Father John Blum, pastor, and priests who have served the people of St. John Vianney will celebrate a noon Mass Sunday, Nov. 16, that will be followed by a potluck lunch. A concert will take place Saturday, Nov. 23, 7 p.m., featuring the parish’s music ministry and the gospel choir of St. Joseph Parish in St. Petersburg. The concert will include soloists from St. Petersburg College’s music department. Admission to this concert is a bag of food for the St. Vincent de Paul food pantry in St. Petersburg. A love offering also will be collected for St. John music ministry fund. St. John Vianney Parish is at 445 82nd Ave., St. Pete Beach. Bishop Lynch to celebrate Hispanic MassPosted: 10.17.08 The annual diocesan Hispanic Mass celebrated by Bishop Robert N. Lynch will take place Saturday, Nov. 8, at the Cathedral of St. Jude the Apostle, 5815 Fifth Ave. N., St. Petersburg. The Mass will be dedicated to the Virgin of Suyapa, patroness of Honduras. It will begin at 9 a.m. with a rosary, followed by a 9:30 procession of flags and a 10 a.m. Mass. For more information, call the diocesan Multicultural Office at 727-341-6851. Triathlon registration begins soonPosted: 10.17.08 Athletes are already training for the St. Anthony triathlon, but before they can run, bike and swim, they need to go online and get registered. The triathlon, one of the largest Olympic-distance triathlons in the United States, draws professional and amateur athletes. More than 4,000 individuals and 125 relay teams from across the United States participated last year. The triathlon supports St. Anthony’s Hospital and its community-owned facilities. Interested competitors may register at www.satriathlon.com beginning at 9 a.m., Monday, Dec. 1. Last year’s registration closed in less than eight hours. Programs geared for young adultsPosted: 10.17.08 Several social and faith-filled gatherings for young Catholic adults are coming up over the next few months. Theology-on-Tap, where those in their 20s eat, drink and discuss faith in area restaurants, is currently meeting weekly in the Velvet Room of the Channelside Mall, 615 Channelside Drive, Tampa. In addition, young adults older than high school age but younger than 30 are invited to any or all of the Young Adult Catholics Hanging Together (YACHT) events taking place this fall. Upcoming programs include: All Saints night, Oct. 30, at St. Cecelia Parish, Clearwater; Mass and adoration with praise and worship, Nov. 6, at Our Lady of Lourdes Parish, Dunedin; a general discussion night, Nov. 13, at Light of Christ Parish, Clearwater; and a Mass and potluck supper, Nov. 20, at St. Catherine of Siena Parish, Clearwater.
