Absolve, we beseech Thee, O Lord, the soul of Thy servant Sister Rose Clare Welpe, from every bond of sin, that being raised in the glory of the resurrection, he may be refreshed among the Saints and Elect. We pray through Christ our Lord.

Sister Rose Clare Welpe, a Franciscan Sister of Allegany who served in two local parishes, died May 4 at St. Joseph Hospital, Tampa. She was 86 and in the 62nd year of religious profession.
Sister Welpe worked in schools in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, New York and Connecticut before coming to Florida to engage in parish ministry. Her service in that area took her to St. Francis Xavier Parish in Fort Myers, as well as to St. Paul and St. Mary Our Lady of Grace parishes in St. Petersburg. In 1982, Sister Welpe worked as a driver for elderly sisters from her community who lived at the former St. Francis Residence in Tampa. After her own retirement, she resided at St. Elizabeth Convent in Tampa.
Sister Welpe’s funeral Mass was celebrated May 9. She was buried at Calvary Catholic Cemetery, St. Petersburg.
