Shortcake is a sweet fundraiser for St. Clement Parish
Parishioners of St. Clement Parish in Plant City visited the Diocese of St. Petersburg’s Pastoral Center recently complete with strawberries, shortcake, biscuits and whipped cream as a treat for the center’s employees. ST. PETERSBURG | Father Tom Anastasia, pastor of St. Clement Parish in Plant City, said his parishioners staff a strawberry shortcake booth at the Florida Strawberry Festival every year and the fundraiser brings in tens of thousands of dollars for the Plant City parish. He said the shortcake fundraiser beats any regular money-raising effort he has been involved in as a priest. “I’ve been in parishes where they have a festival every year (to raise money). This is better,” the priest said. “We’re all focused on one thing.” The St. Clement booth is popular stop among festival-goers. Shortcake judges apparently like it too. “We won the blue ribbon this year,” Father Anastasia said. “Every year we win first prize. … “There are three shortcake booths at the festival. There is always the longest line at our place.” Parishioners from St. Clement brought some of their award-winning strawberry shortcake to the Pastoral Center in St. Petersburg March 7 for staffers and visitors to enjoy. The strawbery festival was Feb. 29 through March 8.
