LORD'S PRAYER AND SIGN OF PEACE

Priest: Invites the people to pray in the words Jesus taught, then prays along with them. Prays to the Lord for his peace, offers peace to the congregation and invites them to offer one another a sign of Christ’s peace.

People: Stand, pray the Our Father and offer the sign of peace.

Did you know? Gestures for the Lord’s Prayer vary according to manners established by bishops and local customs. Some congregations join hands for the Lord’s Prayer. A handshake is a customary but not mandatory sign of peace in the United States.

Tip: Don’t go overboard on the sign of peace. The U.S. bishops say it should be offered only to those nearest to you and in a sober manner.
