SCOTT SHARLOW| FC OFFERTORYPriest: Receives the bread and wine from members of the congregation who bring them forward, places them on the altar, blesses them, prepares them to be consecrated and offers them along with the proceeds of the collection as a sacrifice to God. Washes his hands as a sign of desire for interior purification. Prays over the gifts. People: Sit, sing a hymn, drop an envelope or loose money into the collection basket, pray aloud that God will accept the sacrifice, respond, “Amen” to the prayer over the gifts. Did you know? The collection is typically a stewardship offering for the parish, not only to support its ministries but also to pay the bills for the physical plant — maintenance, electricity, insurance, etc. Tip: How much to give is a personal decision to be made prayerfully, considering both your resources and the parish’s expenses. A couple of bucks a week probably doesn’t cut it anymore, for most people. One thing to consider, especially in Florida: How much is the air conditioning worth to you?
