READINGS AND RESPONSORIAL PSALMPriest: Sits and listens. The first and second readings are usually done by lay readers and the psalm is led by the cantor or psalmist. People: Sit and listen, sing the refrain of the psalm. Did you know? Sitting is the liturgical posture of attentive listening. Tip: Reading the Scriptures in advance of Mass can increase your understanding of the words when they are spoken at Mass.
SCOTT SHARLOW | FC GOSPELPriest: Silently prays to prepare himself, then stands and goes to the ambo to proclaim the Gospel. People: Stand and sing, “Alleluia” or other seasonally appropriate acclamation (no Alleluias during Lent) when the priest rises. Make a small sign of the cross with their right thumbs on their forehead, lips and breastbone to signify that the word is on their minds, lips and hearts, then listen to Jesus’ story and offer praise to him. Did you know? If a deacon or another priest is present, he, rather than the priest celebrant, should proclaim the Gospel. Tip: We stand for the Gospel to acknowledge it is Christ himself who speaks to us. Page 1 | Page 2 | Page 3 | Page 4 | Page 5 | Page 6 | Page 7 | Page 8
