
Hurricane relief: Here’s where you can help

Cuba, already reeling from Hurricane Gustav, was struck by Hurricane Ike, which killed four people and caused the destruction of many buildings and homes. Box 17090, Baltimore, MD 21203–7090 • Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Miami (directing donations to Catholic partners overseas) — Checks with a notation in the memo line designating the donation for hurricane relief should be mailed to Catholic Charities Storm Aid, 9401 Biscayne Blvd., Miami Shores, FL 33138. Or online at: www.ccadm.org, click on Donate Now, and designate the amount to be contributed and the donation option. For information call 305–762–3040 or e–mail rdesroches@ccadm.org. • Catholic Charities of Central Florida (serving central Florida flooding victims and directing donations to Catholic Relief Services for overseas victims) — Checks with “disaster relief” notation should be mailed to 1819 Semoran Blvd., Orlando, FL 32807–3598. • Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Venice Inc. (accepting donations for relief for all hurricanes to hit the United States and the Caribbean, including Haiti and Cuba)— Checks with notation should be mailed to 1000 Pinebrook Road, Venice, FL 34285. • Hope For Haiti — donations with note for hurricane relief may be made online at www.hopeforhaiti.com, by mail at 1042 6th Ave. N., Naples, FL 34102, or by phone: (239) 434–7183. A $100 donation helps purchase a survival bucket which includes dry food, medical supplies and other necessities for survival. The following parishes, missions and religious orders in the Archdiocese of Miami are accepting food and clothing to be sent to Haiti and Cuba: • St. James, 540 N.W. 132 St., North Miami • Holy Family, 14500 N.E. 11 Ave., Miami • Notre Dame D’ Haiti Mission, 110 N.E. 62 St., Miami • St. Joseph Haitian Mission, 1210 N.W. Sixth Ave., Pompano Beach • Convent of the Daughters of Charity, 500 N.W. 63 Ave., Miami (No clothing). Food as follows will be sent directly to Cuba: canned food (vegetables, meats, fish, oils, pasta meals); dairy (powdered milk, canned milk); grains (dry beans of all types, ground corn meal, rice).
