Wounded Warrior Scholarship awarded
Madyson Hart talks about the bravery of her father, U.S. Army Sgt. Nicholas Tritto, a Purple Heart veteran of the war on terrorism, with Mike Rivera, faithful navigator of the Father Howard J. Lesch Fourth-Degree Assembly 1564 of the Knights of Columbus.
Service to others is a quality that first-grader Madyson Hart has witnessed at a young age. Her father, Sgt. Nicolas Tritto, served the U.S. Army as an explosive ordnance expert in Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan, sustaining an injury in an explosive ordnance disposal incident. He earned a Purple Heart medal in 2004 for his action. In turn, the fourth-degree Knights of Columbus in Fort Walton Beach granted Sgt. Tritto its annual Wounded Warrior Scholarship, an award in keeping with the Knights’ guiding principle of patriotism. Sgt. Tritto designated the award for part of his daughter’s tuition at a Fort Walton Beach private school. According to Frank Liberatori, director of the scholarship program, any person who has displayed patriotism may apply for the award, regardless of religion. |
