Catholic Charities GalaProceeds will help those in need.TICKET INFORMATIONFor information regarding sponsorship and tickets, call 850-435-3570. PENSACOLA | The 46-year-old woman lived in a travel trailer next to her crumbling house which had been wrecked by Hurricane Ivan. She also battled daily with treatment for a potentially fatal medical condition. Catholic Charities’ case management, a program dedicated to helping people become self-sufficient, helped her obtain a new home. The more comfortable living environment led to daily improvements in her health. Funds from the annual Pensacola regional Catholic Charities Gala help make those case management services possible, improving life for the neediest in Escambia and Santa Rosa counties, regardless of race, religion or national origin. This year holds particular significance for the gala in Pensacola. The event, which will be held Saturday, Oct. 27, at St. Ann Catholic Church in Bellview, marks its 25th anniversary as an evening dedicated to assistance for the organization’s five service programs. "We want to raise the awareness of the plight of the poor in Santa Rosa and Escambia counties," explained Donna Potts, Pensacola regional director of Catholic Charities of Northwest Florida. These programs, which include immigration and refugee services, counseling services, adoption services, pregnancy counseling, case management and emergency assistance and disaster response, will each receive a portion of the funds raised at the event. "All of the programs are offered to those most in need," continued Potts. Potts said the gala’s fundraising goal is $150,000. Up to 1,500 tickets at an admission of $50 per ticket will be sold until the evening of the event, which begins at 6 p.m. The event will include both a silent and live auction, as well as a drawing for a 2007 Corvette, compliments of Pete Moore Chevrolet. Light Jazz music will entertain guests throughout the evening as tapas and cocktails are served. Bishop John H. Ricard, SSJ, will preside over the event. Serving as honorary chairpersons are Dr. Henry Roberts, retired minister in the Alabama-West Florida Conference of the United Methodist Church, and his wife, Jane. Roberts is the president of the Sacred Heart Health Care Systems Foundation in Pensacola. |
