OBITUARYDominican Sister Helene Burns, 86Sister Burns was principal of Sacred Heart School in Pensacola from 1958 to 1962. Adrian Dominican Sister Helene Burns, formerly known as Sister James Mary Burns, died Feb. 4 at the Dominican Life Center in Adrian, Mich. She was 86 and in the 68th year of her religious profession in the Adrian Dominican congregation. Born in Rockford, Ill., Sister Burns held a bachelor’s degree in history from Siena Heights College (University) and a master of education degree from Barry College (University) in Miami Shores. In addition to her years of ministry in Michigan, Illinois and the Dominican Republic, Sister Burns was principal of Sacred Heart School in Pensacola from 1958 to 1962. She taught at the school for three years before becoming principal. She became a resident of the Dominican Life Center in 2001. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated in Adrian Feb. 7.
