Religious life to be celebratedThe Diocese of Palm Beach will celebrate “World Day for Consecrated Life” Feb. 2, 2 p.m., in the chapel at Mary Immaculate Parish, 500 Spencer Drive, West Palm Beach. All are invited to come together and join Bishop Gerald M. Barbarito for a special Holy Hour with exposition of the Blessed Sacrament and Benediction. In 1997, Pope John Paul II instituted “World Day for Consecrated Life” to be celebrated on the feast of the Purification, Feb. 2, or on the weekend nearest to the feast. Pope Benedict XVI affirms and continues this celebration with the eucharistic celebration in St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome. The purpose of this celebration is to thank God for the call of men and women religious to follow the evangelical counsels of poverty, chastity and obedience. At the same time, it is intended to be a suitable occasion for consecrated persons to renew their commitment and rekindle the fervor which should inspire the offering of themselves to the Lord. Academic Day is an annual event at St. Vincent de Paul Regional Seminary during which seminarians, nonresident students, faculty, alumni and interested guests join together for a series of lectures and dialogue sessions with noted Catholic theologians. The Faith and Reason Conference at St. John Vianney College Seminary is an annual event inspired by Pope John Paul II’s 1998 encyclical of the same name, and features major participants in the contemporary dialogue centering on the themes of the encyclical. This is the first year the two events have been combined. For more information, visit www.svdp.edu or call 561-732-4424.
