BOCA RATON | Noelle Norona, 6, and her turtle, Marshmallow, attend a ceremony at St. Joan of Arc in Boca Raton dedicated to blessing of the animals. Parishes throughout the Diocese of Palm Beach organized special ceremonies for pet owners and their pets in September and October. The tradition that includes a blessing of animals is typically held annually around the feast of St. Francis of Assisi, Oct. 4. St. Joan of Arc Parish in Boca Raton held a pet event Oct. 3 and hundreds showed up toting everything from turtles to rabbits and cats. Father John Gallagher, parochial vicar, was on hand with his furry best friend and he presided over ceremonies.
