Respect Life Month events announcedPALM BEACH GARDENS | October is celebrated as Respect Life Month by the Catholic Church in the United States. The designation began in 1972, a few months before the 1973 landmark Roe v. Wade decision, in which the U.S. Supreme Court legalized abortion. There are several events planned in October to bring prayer and awareness to pro-life issues, something important in this election year. • Oct. 5, Respect Life Sunday. Please pray for life and pro-life issues. • Sept. 24 to Nov. 2, 40 Days for Life national movement. People are encouraged to peacefully bring awareness to the evils of abortion. There are many activities planned locally in keeping with national efforts that encourage prayer, fasting and other spiritual events. For information, call Don Kazimir, coordinator of the diocesan Respect Life Office, at 561-775-9556. Read about the local effort in the Sept. 26 issue of the Florida Catholic. • Oct. 10-11, Florida Respect Life Conference, Ramada Conference Center, Tallahassee.
