DAYTONA BEACH | Father Tim Daly, president of Father Lopez High School in Daytona Beach, gave school staff a tour of the new campus’ building site on LPGA Boulevard earlier this month. The current campus is at the corner of Madison Avenue and Nova Road, just south of Mason Avenue.

“Students pray ‘Hail Mary’ daily for the intentions of the new school,” said Father Daly. He added that the new state-of-the-art campus “will prepare students for 21st-century learning, both spiritually and academically.”

The $30 million project was made possible by donations from major contributors, including local businesses and the Catholic Church. “It is a project that so many came together for; a big thanks to the donors for making this dream come true,” Father Daly said.

When completed, the school will be large enough to accommodate 500 students, with the capability to expand — holding up to 1,000. The project broke ground in April 2007 and is expected to be completed by June.

Festival of Faith to include speakers from catechesis gathering

Two key presenters from the “Fashion Me a People” lifelong catechesis convention held recently in Orlando, Bill Huebsch and ValLimar Jansen, will share their gifts at the Diocese of Orlando celebration “Festival of Faith,” May 8-10.

Huebsch has been in ministry since the mid-1970s and has published more than a dozen books. He is a national leader in faith formation and whole-community catechesis. Huebsch explained: “Our core work is to help people deepen their communion with Christ, which leads them to know and love the beatitudes; to help them grow and sustain the excitement within their parish so they can live their faith in their daily lives; and to invite others to deeper communion as well.”

Jansen is an experienced singer, cantor, recording artist, professor and worship leader recognized nationally for her work with youth and educators in music and liturgy. Lin Wyatt, director of religious education for St. Joseph Parish in Palm Bay, said, “ValLimar exudes a Catholic presence. The liturgies were stunning, energizing, exquisite as she incorporated Scripture, song, prayer and drama — weaving in fabric and liturgical dance. It is awesome to celebrate the Catholic treasure of our liturgy and ritual, and I left with a realization of how honored and privileged I am to be Catholic.”
