OBITUARY

Deacon Harold Timmis, 65

DAYTONA BEACH | Deacon Harold F. Timmis, a deacon for the Diocese of Orlando for 14 years, the last six at Prince of Peace Parish in Ormond Beach, died Oct. 23. He was 65.

Before serving at Prince of Peace, Deacon Timmis served eight years as a deacon at Christ the King Mission in Citra, where he also served as a layperson for six years prior to ordination on June 12, 1993. Bishop Thomas Wenski celebrated the memorial Mass Oct. 27 at Prince of Peace.

“Harold was very concerned about social justice issues,” said Deacon Bob Kinsey, director of the Permanent Diaconate for the diocese, and also a member of Prince of Peace. “He was extremely competent and successful in dealing with the elderly. He will be missed at both locations.”

Deacon Timmis was born in Wyandotte, Mich., and leaves behind Judy, his wife of 46 years and four children: Sister of St. Joseph Deborah Timmis, Terry Ray, Irene Flores and George M. Timmis, and seven grandchildren. His son, Harold E. Timmis, predeceased him.

In addition to his love for his family and fishing, Deacon Timmis was active in the Prince of Peace Men’s Club, the 7 a.m. Mass community and was a fourth-degree Knight of Columbus.

Deacon Kinsey said, “As Bishop Wenski said at the close of Mass, ‘The Lord will welcome him and say, “Well done, good and faithful servant.”‘
