Parish is building for its future: the children

WINTER PARK — Parishioners at St. Margaret Mary in Winter Park named the three-year school renovation project, "Building Our Future."

"Our children are our future," said Principal Katie Walsh. "This is where it all begins with spreading the good news. And everything we do begins with the Gospel. The foundation the students receive here is the faith formation that will be with them all their lives."

The foundation for that future is the support of the parishioners whose children attended school years ago or who have had children in Catholic education and realize its value. In recognition of that dedication, St. Margaret Mary installed an elevator for ease of access for grandparents, parishioners and people with disabilities who visit the school or attend meetings and use the second-floor rooms for parish activities.

Major emphasis has been placed on an improved, safer, high-quality environment. Windows were replaced and lighting and air conditioning are energy-efficient. The school is keeping pace with the best technological practices.

Father Richard Walsh, pastor, said, "Our school is a wonderful environment to raise and form a child especially in this day and age. It truly does take a village to raise a child and a Catholic parish is that village."

Father Walsh added: "We’re doing everything possible to provide a healthy, happy, safe and secure environment. Because we’re located in downtown Winter Park, we're trying to be faithful to the old and new and reflect the tone and mood of the community in which we live."
