Pope Benedict names seven priests as monsignors

Six priests of the Diocese of Orlando are named monsignors and one monsignor is elevated to Protonotary Apostolic Supernumerary.

In honoring priests of the Diocese of Orlando who have given long and distinguished service to the diocese, Pope Benedict XVI honors the entire church of Orlando which celebrates its 40th anniversary this year by designating six priests with the title of monsignor. Another priest, Msgr. Patrick Caverly, vicar general for the diocese, is named Protonotary Apostolic Supernumerary, the highest-ranking nonepiscopal prelate at diocesan level. His title will now be Reverend Monsignor.

Bishop Thomas Wenski made a formal announcement to the recipients April 14 in the lobby of the chancery. The honors will be formally conferred on these priests Friday evening, May 9, during the Diocese of Orlando’s Festival of Faith at the Orange County Convention Center south concourse. Papal and diocesan honors will also be conferred on members of Christ’s faithful during the same ceremony.

Rev. Msgr. Patrick Caverly, P.A., was ordained June 10, 1961. For more than 46 years he has faithfully served the people of God. He was appointed vicar general of the diocese of Orlando in 1991 and is the pastor of Annunciation Parish in Altamonte Springs.

Msgr. John Caulfield was ordained May 31, 1959. He has faithfully served the church in a variety of assignments and capacities for more than 56 years. He is currently pastor of St. Joseph Parish in Lakeland.

Msgr. Leon Dobosiewicz was ordained April 6, 1946. Since his retirement in 1984, he has continued to engage in active ministry, most recently in the Diocese of Orlando. He assists at Holy Spirit Parish in Lake Wales.

Msgr. Manuel Fernandez was ordained July 15, 1962. He came to the Diocese of Orlando to serve the migrant population and has been a humble and dedicated priest for more than 45 years. He is pastor of St. Mary of the Lakes Parish in Eustis.

Msgr. Fabian Gimeno was ordained June 19, 1960, and has served the people of God for more than 47 years. He is pastor of St. Thomas Aquinas Parish in St. Cloud.

Msgr. Paul Kamide was ordained February 9, 1963, and has faithfully served God’s people for more than 44 years. He has served at a number of parishes in the Diocese of Orlando and is currently pastor of Epiphany Parish in Port Orange.

Msgr. David Page was ordained June 8, 1958, and has faithfully served in a variety of academic and pastoral assignments during his 49 years of priesthood. He is currently pastor of Holy Name of Jesus Parish in Indialantic.
