Honoring Martin Luther King Jr.![]() Bishop Thomas Wenski, right, smiles as Father Giles Conwill, chairman of the department of history at Morehouse College in Atlanta, the alma mater of Martin Luther King Jr., speaks of King as a student. He asked attendees, “Did you know he was a C-plus student? I tell my students, there’s hope.” Every pew at the Cathedral of St. James in Orlando was filled Jan. 13 as people participated in the second annual diocesan Mass celebrating Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Father Giles Conwill, guest homilist, said, “All prophets call for, and cause, radical change.” He added, “Prophets die young,” reminding attendees that King died at age 39. April 2008 will mark the 40th anniversary of King’s death. At the conclusion of the Mass, Bishop Thomas Wenski gave the congregation much to ponder. He said that when he was a pastor of a church in the Little Haiti section of Miami, there was a subway station near his house named after King. Inscribed there were words from King, “Anybody can be great (because) everyone can serve.”
