Schools finding friends on Facebook

MIAMI | The Internet is changing the way Catholic schools keep in touch with their alumni. Many are turning to social networking sites to expand their reach.

“It’s incredible to me how I can post something on Facebook and within three minutes, I have an answer from somebody,” said Martica Castellanos, alumnae director at Our Lady of Lourdes Academy in Miami, who manages the Facebook page for the school. “This technology, when used correctly, is beneficial to any institution.”

In some cases, such as that of Sts. Peter and Paul School in Miami, alumni have beaten administrators to the punch, creating Facebook pages where they can keep in touch and reminisce with other alumni. CONTINUED...
