First Monroe County Red Mass scheduledA Red Mass for the Monroe County legal and judiciary community will be celebrated Friday, March 7, noon, at St. Mary Star of the Sea Church, 1010 Windsor Lane, Key West. This is believed to be the first Red Mass ever held in Monroe County and it will be followed by a reception sponsored by the Monroe County Bar Association in the Spiritual Renewal Center adjacent to the church. All members of the Monroe County legal and judiciary community are welcome, including retired personnel who live in the Keys. Churches host Guadalupe imagesThe jubilee pilgrimage of two icons of Our Lady of Guadalupe, sent by the rector of the basilica in Mexico City, continues through Oct. 7 in parishes throughout the archdiocese. New show airs on Radio PeaceRadio Peace has launched “The Faith Factor,” a new English-language afternoon drive-time talk show, which airs live Monday through Friday from 5 to 6 p.m. on WLVJ 1040 AM. This dynamic and entertaining program, hosted by Bill Brown, discusses all topics from a faith perspective, including marriage and relationships, parenting issues, finances, vocations and current events within the Catholic Church. The introduction of the new program means the Mass and rosary that used to air from 5 to 6 p.m. now will air from 9 to 10 a.m. weekdays. Other Radio Peace programs continue in their regular time slot: Sister Ann Shields’ “Food for the Journey” at 7:10 a.m.; “Conversations with Archbishop Favalora” at 7:20 a.m.; “Breakfast for Your Spirit” at 7:30 a.m.; “Faith, Politics and the Culture” from 8 to 9 a.m. In addition to Brown, “The Faith Factor” features longtime Radio Peace host Philip Carlton and returning guests, including Father Manny Alvarez, vocations director for the archdiocese; child psychologist Dr. Joseph Mallet; and local Catholics such as Toni Mamert, David Rhugnanan, Lenny and Sara Gonzalez, and others. Brown joined Pax Catholic Communications in February as coordinator of programming and as host of “The Faith Factor.” At 31, he is the youngest student in the permanent diaconate program for the archdiocese. After running his own construction firm, he left the business world in October of last year to serve fulltime as worship leader and parish administrator at St. Louis Parish in Pinecrest. He has been married to Marilucy for 10 years and they have three children. Pax Catholic Communications is the umbrella for Radio Paz 830 AM, Radio Peace 1040 AM, Radio Paz Satelital and La Voz Católica, the archdiocese’s Spanish-language monthly newspaper. Musicians discuss Holy Thursday ritesThe Miami chapter of the National Association of Pastoral Musicians will host a meeting Saturday, March 1, 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., at Barry University’s Cor Jesu Chapel. The meeting will focus on the Holy Thursday celebration and is open to all liturgical musicians in the archdiocese, regardless of whether or not they are members of the group. Holy Rosary School seeks alumniIn preparation for its 50th anniversary celebration this October, Our Lady of the Holy Rosary School invites all graduates to contact the newly established alumni office at alumni@holyrosarymiami.org. Our Lady of the Holy Rosary was the first parish established after the Archdiocese of Miami was created in 1958. It is at 9500 S.W. 184 St., Miami. Vincentians mark 175thLocal members of the St. Vincent de Paul Society, the world’s largest lay Catholic charity, will join with more than 115,000 fellow Vincentians throughout the United States April 20 to mark Ozanam Sunday, the 175th anniversary of the group’s founding. The celebration will begin at 5 p.m. with a Mass at Gesu Church in downtown Miami celebrated by Miami Auxiliary Bishop Felipe Estévez. The Mass will be followed at 7 p.m. by a fundraising dinner-dance at the Marriott Biscayne Bay. “This will be a special year of grace for us, a time of growth and finding more funds to help more people in need,” said Victor Martell, president of the society’s archdiocesan council, which serves Miami-Dade, Broward and Monroe counties. The St. Vincent de Paul Society has served the world’s poor since it was founded by a French college student named Frederic Ozanam. Ozanam founded the society April 23, 1833, his 20th birthday, so that he and his schoolmates could put their faith into action through service to the poor. Known for its thrift stores and food pantries, and the personal visits of its members to the homes of the poor, the society today has more than 690,000 members operating in 142 countries. U.S. members donated nearly 6 million hours of their personal time in 2006, aiding more than 20 million of their neighbors in distress and offering services valued at nearly $500 million.
