Cross-country runners fetedArchbishop Curley Notre Dame High School has honored juniors Carl Dominique, Marlon De La Cruz and Artie Salow, members of the cross country team, for outstanding accomplishments and dedication that led the team to state competition. Carl, the team captain, received the most valuable player trophy. He was the school’s first finisher in every race and guided the boys team to a new school record for most victories in a season, 27. Artie received the first Coach’s Award. He was the most consistent runner on the team and proved to be a hard worker as well as a motivator for his teammates. After a disappointing finish at district competition, he pleaded with the team’s coach, Christian Brother John Corcoran, to hold two-a-day practices to prepare for the regional meet. They compromised and agreed to increase the intensity of the workouts. The work paid off, as the team finished ahead of the school they had lost to in the district competition and qualified a number of runners for state competition. Marlon received the second Coach’s Award. A newcomer to cross country, he earned a spot on the varsity team and became a point-scorer in many of the most important meets of the year. Carl and Artie are currently members of the boys soccer team and look forward to joining the track team in the spring.
