Parish mergers are official

The decision to merge certain parishes in the archdiocese has left many parishioners – at receiving churches and at those that will close – with questions and a torrent of emotions. The <em>Florida Catholic’s</em> Ana Rodriguez–Soto has been following the story since early June when the possibility of mergers was announced.

From St. Agatha to Haiti: reaching out since 1982

MIAMI | Every month without fail since 1982, St. Agatha parishioners have been collecting clothing, medicine and food for the poorest of the poor in Haiti.

The items are sent through the Daughters of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul, who ship them to members of their community working in Haiti, the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere.

It started out with an appeal by Sister Hilda Alonso of the Daughters of Charity back in February 1982 and the naming of a group of men by St. Agatha’s then-pastor, Father Armando Balado, to coordinate the aid effort. MORE...
