Cardinal Keeler visits Miami Jewish Temple
ANA RODRIGUEZ–SOTO | FC MIAMI BEACH | Cardinal William Keeler, retired archbishop of Baltimore and a key participant in many interfaith and ecumenical events, was the keynote speaker at an interfaith dialogue held at Temple Beth Shalom on May 13. The event was sponsored by Our Elder Brothers and Sisters Foundation, which seeks to bring about greater understanding between Christians and Jews. It was the first time a Catholic cardinal has visited a Jewish temple in Miami. Also in attendance were representatives of other Christian faiths, an Islamic leader and choirs from St. Katharine Drexel Parish in Weston and St. Ann Mission in Naranja, as well as a children’s choir from Notre Dame d’Haiti Parish in Miami.
At left, Cardinal Keeler receives the first John Paul at the Western Wall annual award from Bernardo Benes, a Cuban Jew who founded Our Elder Brothers and Sisters Foundation. "What we did here today, I want to export it" to other parts of the United States and the world, Benes said.
