Praying and giving, step–by–step

Sister Patricia Knapp, 89, shown above in the white veil on the day in 1941 when she became a novice, is the last remaining Victory Noll missionary in service in the archdiocese.

NORTH MIAMI | Third–grader Victoria Cadet of St. James School prays at the Marian grotto that features a stepping–stone mission rosary created by the school’s Missions Club. Each stone color represents a different continent. Behind her is classmate Kathiana Brini. The school collected $5,000 this year to aid a sister school in Haiti, the Holy Childhood Association and a children’s feeding program in Colombia. Even though almost half of the students at St. James qualify for the Florida Pride scholarships for low–income families, “I’ve always wanted to promote service and sharing,” said the school’s principal, Sister Kathleen Carr, a Sister of St. Joseph of St. Augustine. “People have been so good to us. It’s teaching the children to give back – and they do.”
